Equality Diversity and Inclusion in Dentistry

A Professional Wide Commitment

SBDN are delighted to see this document published (May 2021) as a result of the enormous piece of work from the Chair Nishma Sharma and the Strategic Oversight Group. The Society are pleased to have been given an opportunity to contribute to the work and present at one of the meetings. This marks a moment in time and a call to ‘Act now’, the issue of racism, prejudice and bias is out dated and can no longer be ignored.

SBDN has already undertaken a number of steps:

  1. Mouse in the House survey looking at dental nurse experiences
  2. Co-developed a statement of intent
  3. Developed their own strategy
  4. Committed to undertaking a review of all policies
  5. Committed to ensuring all applicants to the Society feel welcome and introducing an ‘Evergreen Role’ in 2022
  6. Ensured EDI is included in others bodies of work (Mental Health in Wellness)
  7. Share the report with the Internal Federation of Dental Assistants and Nurses
