We are delighted to inform all of our members about the new qualifications in Wales and of course this is vital for our members in Wales. As part of the Welsh government driver Bangor University have developed a level 4 and a level 3 in dental nursing that are specific to Wales. In addition to this Bangor University now have a dental hygiene course. Exciting times ahead.
This work has enabled the establishment of a succinct escalation pathway and hopes to encourage and attract more people to the profession, in an area where the provision can be varied. We are delighted to have been involved in the stakeholder groups and the co-designing of the qualifications and look forward to watching the progress. SBDN would like to thank Welsh government for this extensive work and particularly former CDO Colette Bridgman and Deputy CDO Paul Brocklehurst.
The team at Bangor University also make up the All Wales Dental Faculty and we would encourage you to visit the website and look at the short courses on their. https://awfdcp.ac.uk/
Our Dental Nurse representatives for Wales share their opinions: Leah Padfield and Alis Fleming
I am very excited that there is now a Wales specific qualification that has now been made available to aspiring dental nurses. I feel that there are limited opportunities to be able to study a dental nurse specific qualification in Wales. As many know the dentistry industry is struggling with staffing issues now more than ever with coronavirus and many staff leaving the profession due to finding the working conditions very difficult, having more dental nurse specific qualifications made accessible all-around Wales can help more people work towards and build a career.
I am proud to be supporting dental nurses in Wales and the encouragement of the Welsh language – ‘Rwy’n falch I fod yn cefnogi nyrsys deintyddol yng nghymru ac annog yr iath Gymraeg’
