SBDN are sad to hear of the passing of Dame Margaret Seward – a great steward of Dental Nursing in her time and a stalwart to the whole profession. Deepest sympathies go to her family.
President Fiona Ellwood – recalls many a meeting where Dame Margaret was in attendance, especially the BDA historian meetings. Fiona recalls her being a formidable (in the nicest way) and influential lady who told it as it was, and someone who had clearly driven the profession forward.
Fiona said ‘She was influential in where we are today in dental nursing and her place in dental nursing history should never be forgotten, it is truly a very sad day’. I personally thank her for the support she gave me earlier in my career and in meetings when historical perspectives of dental nursing were challenged’. To get a feel for who this lady was take a look at her memoirs …
Today 09/08/2021 we were honoured to attended the memorial service for Dame Margaret Seward amongst dental colleagues across many years. Many memories were shared from family readings and readings from Prof. John Murray and Prof. Nairn Wilson. Dame Margaret clearly made her mark in all walks of her life and laid many paths for future generations. A fitting tribute to a remarkable woman.
