SBDN are very proud to be asked to support the DSA Alumni. Dental Surgery Assistants (DSA)were for many years the only qualified dental professionals working chairside assisting clinicians. With the decisions to officially change the name from DSA to dental nurse a moment in time and our history was made. From 1994 the title of our role became dental nurse, those holding a DSA certificate and all that came with it, formally became a dental nurse as part of statutory registration in the window of 2006-2008.
DSA’s and their work formed key components of the history of dental nursing as we know it today, what has been fascinating of late are the conversations between more recently qualified dental nurse and DSA’s – ‘Times Gone- By’. The DSA Alumni hopes to keep those memories alive and appreciate the work done, time is swiftly moving on and life events take over -this group are keen to be remembered. If you were a DSA please do get in touch and contribute to this vision.
Have you looked at your qualification pictures, your badge, your yellow belt and perhaps lapels, maybe you have your nursing cap, your textbooks or mock exam papers. Help us bring DSA’s back together. Join the first meeting on the 28th September.
