The Society is delighted to see that the GDC has taken stakeholder feedback on board, and whilst the changes haven’t gone far enough, these welcome changes will at least help some of our members and the wider dental team. The mapping document changes, however, have not gone far enough, registrants should be able to write a self-declaration and justify why they believe it meets a specific criteria and map it to the said criteria.
The general changes are as follows, although we urge you to read the information on the GDC site too. https://www.gdc-uk.org/news-blogs/news/detail/2025/03/04/gdc-announces-updates-to-cpd-processes
Firstly, the guidance documents have been updated to reflect the changes; you will note we have lost the ‘E’ enhanced bit, too.
- Registration numbers no longer need to be on certificates
- There is no need for a QA signature on the bottom of the certificate – this is adequate: “We confirm that the information provided on this certificate is full and accurate and that this CPD has been subject to quality assurance”.
- The example certificate template has been amended.
- The mapping document signature requirement has been removed, but this, sadly, still presents the same challenges as provider input is needed.
- Greater awareness of the grace period to be made.
