President Celebrates Being Recognised in the Top 50 in Dentistry

Clare is the current President of the Society of British Dental Nurses and has supported the Society of British Dental Nurses for many years. She has many years of experience as a dental nurse and has played a significant role in the dental nursing educational arena. She has also played a key role in the extensive work on Sexual Misconduct in the Dental Workplace, an initiative introduced in 2023. Since then, the Society has continued the work and has had the pleasure to present this work across the nations.

Clare is an NHS Dental Nurse Matron at Birmingham Dental Hospital and the former principal dental nurse at the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust. Not losing touch with general practice, Clare often works as a sedation lead and implant dental nurse. Her clinical expertise sits across periodontics, endodontics, implantology and facial aesthetics. Prior to this Clare was the former dental nurse lead lecturer at Walsall College, teaching the level 3 diploma in dental nursing. She holds a number of post-registration qualifications and the TAQA assessing qualifications. In addition to this Clare has successfully undertaken her Cert Ed and holds a First Class Honours Degree in Education Studies and is currently a master’s student at Loughborough University.

Clare is delighted to have been included in the Top 50 awards and recognises how important it is to work as part of a forward-thinking organisation, an organisation founded by dental nurses and run by dental nurses, for dental nurses. Knowing that education, development, and success —whatever that looks like for every dental nurse —are so important, she will continue her journey as the President of the Society of British Dental Nurses to contribute to the learning and development landscape.

Executive Director Fiona Ellwood said,

“It is a pleasure to see our President being recognised in the Top 50. Clare is one of many talented dental nurses, but interestingly, she is not one to seek a platform or accolades; you won’t find her shouting from the rooftops or posing in journals, you are more likely to see her in purposeful and meaningful meetings, informing and contributing to the direction of travel. She is dedicated to NHS dentistry and a whole-team approach, and, like many, has hope, ambition, and vision for the future of the profession. She is certainly not a ‘yes’ person; she would rather there were transparent debates and a ‘can-do’ approach around a table.”
