SBDN were delighted to be represented in Parliament this week – ‘Dental Deserts’ hosted by Denplan & Oral Health Foundation.
The hosts brought to our attention the continued debate about so-called ‘Dental Deserts’ and the challenges of the dental contract and the dental workforce. Hosts Catherine Rutland – Clinical Director of Denplan and Mr Nigel Carter – Chief Executive Oral Health Foundation spoke to the notion of ‘Dental Deserts’, followed by input from Yasmin Qureshi MP (Labour) and Peter Aldous MP (Conservative).
SBDN was represented by the Chief Executive (Fiona Ellwood BEM), who was delighted to hear the discussions take rather a different perspective – the notion of the ‘dental team’ is becoming more common in political speak. It was noted and welcomed, that Yasmin Querish MP ensured within her speach that members of the wider dental team were mentioned and the recognition of some the roles that they undertake.
SBDN conitinue to remind all stakeholders both indpendentally and collectively as part of the Dental Professional Alliance that the whole team matters. SBDN also had an opportunity to speak to a number of other MPs on the day and of course the Chief Dental Officer for England Sara Hurley and many professional colleagues.
