The Society is supporting ‘Dental Check by 1 initiative by the British Society of Paediatric Dentistry. This initiative aims to encourage parents and carers to take young children to the dentist before they are 1 and ideally when the first tooth has appeared.

Our Patron believes that the initiative may well serve a wider purpose in not only caring for the oral health of pre-school children, but also in changing the thinking of parents and carers. Furthermore, everything points to dental caries being a preventable disease and yet it is currently a disease that is producing disturbing statistics in the 0-5yrs across a number of regions . This is an important step and is in line with the current oral health improvement strategies – our moto is starting well, living well.
