Top 50 in Dentistry

We are delighted to see Fiona Ellwood recognised in the Topo 50 Awards for 2026. The Society work so hard on behalf of its members, and much of this is driven by Fiona. This is not about having a personal platform or having a brand; for us, it is about recognising someone who continues to take the profession forward and goes that extra mile. Fiona recognises that it takes a whole team and often more to establish a voice and to drive change. Never one to shy away from hard work, or to accept that things either cannot be achieved or that we have to do the same old things in the same old way – she is certainly a ‘let’s look at the possibilities’ kind of person.

Over 10 years ago, the Society of British Dental Nurses was launched, and the commitment to the organisation, has been enormous. If that was the only thing she was involved in then you may say well, so what, but if only you knew the half and the majority of it is undertaken on a voluntary basis around her employed work. The work for the Society is also on a voluntary basis. With over 40 years in the industry, she shows no sign of giving up, and she still has as much pride in her now as she had when she qualified in Manchester. When asked, she will always say it is a team affair and when times are difficult, family first.

We hope you will join us in congratulating Fiona for this award in 2026
