This year, the awards have a slightly different approach. We are celebrating our next significant milestone, we are 10 years old! We will present the successful candidates with their awards on the day and celebrate with everyone who was nominated. Manchester 22nd November.

Top Tips for the nominations are:
- Ensure the nominee is entered into the correct section
- Provide a detailed but succinct supporting statement as to why the nominee should be recognised – no more than 200 words
- Examples of their excellence can be added in addition to the word count – testimonials or pictures etc
- Nominations must come from a dental registrant, but can be supported by allied health care professionals
Awards History
The Society was founded at a time when there was a perceived gap and need for an educational and progressive voice around the tables, a time when education for dental nurses was not deemed as important as education for other dental professionals and sadly, within dental nursing by some. You will see from our history, that a group of dental nurses with educational and development backgrounds came together and the ‘Society’ was born. With huge support from the vital stakeholders, we set off on our journey. The awards are celebrated on National Dental Nurses Day 22nd November annually, this is the date of the first formal dental nursing examination, below is a snippet of the educational history of dental nursing which is everything we celebrate. This piece is well referenced through our history, and although we are sure some may see it differently, we are very much aligned with what has been repeatedly written by many great dental historians – Enjoy
The history of dental nursing has been written by many of the greats in dentistry, and the historical events and dates are provided by the NEBDN and well-respected historians. It is well written that Philip Grundy formed the Association and then the Examination Board (BDNAEB) as a separate entity to the Association, and the confusion is clearly explained, even down to the detail of the Association owing Philip Grundy money for a period. In fact, it is well written that Colonel Howkins CBE and Philip Grundy formed the examining board, which was constituted in 1943, only sharing offices with the Association. The founding members also included Mr LC Atkins LDS, Mr Dykes LDS, Mr Ballard LDS and Mr Henderson LDS. A lovely picture of the examination certificate awarded to Madeline Joyce Winter, dated November 22, 1943, is available in the archives, along with a copy of the first examination paper. According to the archives, she was one of the 135 candidates out of 175 who passed the examination. Honestly, our history is so interesting. We are so grateful to all of the hard work and research that has taken place over the years. Did you know we support the Dental Nurse Historian Group? Many thanks to NEBDN for the picture of examination badges over time.
