The Society released a public statement at the start of this week to reassure the members, followers, friends, and colleagues that we are not and have no plans to merge with the Community Trade Union. The Society of British Dental Nurses remain true to its purpose and values and will remain transparent in our actions. We were founded by dental nurses, we have been supported by dental nurses and we keep dental nurses and dental nursing central to everything that we do.
We are driven by the passion and motivation to show and lead the way in the progression and development of the profession, and we are hugely proud of the work we have achieved over the last 10 years. There were those who questioned the need in the early days, but we worked hard to fulfil our ambition for the organisation. We never intended to mirror any existing work or space, but rather bring something that was missing to the dental nursing arena. It hasn’t been without its challenges, challengers, or objections from the same corner, but they’ve simply made us more determined. We will continue to thrive and shine and be the professionals that we want the wider profession to value.
It became apparent whilst at the dentistry show that rumours were swirling that we were merging with the Community Trade Union – we are not and have no plans to do so. When Community entered the dental nursing space, we established a strong professional relationship with them, especially with Celi Brookes, the lead dental nurse, and Tiffany Gillies, whom we introduced to the field. We are very different organisations, but we wanted to welcome them. It is the other dental nursing organisation that is merging with them, as they both serve the same purpose. We will remain independent, so if you were concerned, there is no reason to be.
